Yes, I am STILL Alive!

WHOOPS! My bad! I haven't posted in here for over 5 months now!

The main reason I haven't been posting is that I haven't had a whole lot of news to report! Things were just "same ol' same ol' " for most of the past 5 months. But now, I have some BIG news to report!

This past Thursday, May 25th, I underwent Custom LASIK eye surgery! I've been one of those people who has worn glasses for most of my life. I started wearing glasses when I was 7 years old, and with the exception of wearing contacts for about 1.5 years starting in 1990, have always worn them since. At my last eye exam this past December, my left eye had a Rx of -7.75 while my right eye was -5.5. Now those numbers may not mean much to the average person, but they mean my eyes were really bad.

To put it all in perspective, 20/20 means that the person being tested can see from 20 feet, what the "average" person can see from 20 feet - otherwise called "perfect vision". My eyes were 20/400 for the left eye, and 20/250 for the right. Yep! You guessed it, I could see from 20 feet what the average person could see from 400 feet!!!! I was nearly legally blind in my left eye! Without my glasses, I could only see clearly for about 2 inches.

Finally, after waiting and dreaming for years, this year I was able to afford the whopping $5,600.00 for the procedure, so I went for it. I won't go into all the technical details here, but suffice it to say that now, even though my eyes haven't fully healed, I now have 20/20 vision in my left eye, and 20/25 in my right... which the optometrist is confident will improve to 20/20 when healing is complete; approximately 3-6 weeks! It's incredible! Waking up in the morning and being able to see without having to fumble for my glasses! Taking a shower and being able to see which shampoo bottle to pick up without having to put my nose 2 inches from it! I'm ecstatic about this! I just can't wait for the healing period to end so I can stop taking the eye drops I am taking now, but that is a minor irritation compared to being so visually impaired!

One other bit of news, back in December I started working on writing a fantasy novel. I have been struggling with the storyline for years, ever since I wrote the first draft as an English project in my final year of highschool. I have joined an online writer's forum which has a good group of aspiring writer's who are all very encouraging and supportive, so hopefully I'll get the first book done by the end of this year, but with the way I go about writing, I may NEVER get it done! LOL!

congrats on the eye surgery hun!!!!! Gigantor had it done, he was 20/400 in his left eye, and like 20/550 in his right. It was bad. he went to 20/20 right after surgery, but after he fully healed they are about 20/40. Not perfect but a far sight better than it was. They said he could wear glasses when his eyes felt tired for reading or night driving, but so far he hasn't wanted too.

And keep going on the novel. I love fantasy, I'll be one of the first one's in line to get the book. hehehehe

Oh and 5600 bucks ouch I thought it was way bad at 2500 for us. Cuz now a days here they are like 400 bucks an eye.

Thanks Burf! The price was high, there are other places offering around $700 per eye, but the place I went to, TLC, is the largest in Canada, and has a "Life-long Treatment Committment" that I qualify for, so I think it was worth every penny! The "Life-long" thing means that if I need an eye redone, as long as I don't require "higher technology" there is no charge for it... ever! Tiger Woods used TLC in 1999 and he is still their #1 spokesperson!
