The Worst Week Ever?

It's been 6 days from my last post, and a lot has happened in those 6 days! The one thing that I had really hoped to happen didn't and the one thing I really didn't want to happen did! What I had hoped would happen was that I would get over this cold that has been plaguing me for the last two weeks! But, I'm still coughing, sniffling, sneezing and feeling as miserable as last week! What I had hoped wouldn't happen was receiving notice that as of next Friday, I am once again looking for work! This will be the 3rd job I have lost in two years! No wonder I can't seem to get ahead! I guess it is time to get really serious about building my own business so I don't have to worry about working for anyone else!

There's something seductive about working for yourself. The thought that no one controls my destiny, that no one will control my time, or my security. But, on the other hand, when working for yourself, if something goes wrong, you have no one to blame but yourself. That, I think, is what is holding me back. All my life I have been dependent on someone else to provide. When they didn't, I could just turn to someone else. First it was my parents, then I began to rely on employers... now I have to rely on myself, and I'm not sure it's something I'm ready for. But, ready or not, here I come!

My wife and I will be going down to Columbus, Ohio this coming weekend for a business convention. I'm hoping to find some motivation and excitement while there that will help me overpower the fear and inertia that I've been feeling of late. I know it will be good to get out of town without the kids for a weekend and hang around with a bunch of excited, enthusiastic people for 2 1/2 days. We are riding down with our teammates in a 3 mini-van convoy which should be alot of fun... IF I can persuade the guy I'm supposed to be riding with to let me rent a van and let me drive! His driving is extremely scary! Oh well... we'll see how it goes.
