WARNING! MAJOR RANT AHEAD!
I could just scream right about now! One of my pet peeves is incompetence. My wife gets on my case sometimes because I have so little tolerance for people who can't do things right. She thinks I should have more tolerance I guess. Maybe I should, but what REALLY bugs me is people (or companies) who just won't do their jobs right. I feel there is absolutely no room in this world for people or companies who can't, or won't get their information right, or do what they say they are going to do.
This is the reason for my venting today...
I went to my bank to apply for a Student Line of Credit which would allow me to pay for my AZ license (CDL in the US) so I could start my new career as a truck driver. The idea of the Student Line of Credit is that for the 1st year of the "loan" I would only have to pay the interest, then, once I start working, then I could pay it back, all at a low interest rate. That's the theory, anyway.
Well... while at the bank, the banker does a credit check on me, and two red flags pop up. When she told me about them, I just about exploded. Yes, about 5 years ago, I had some credit issues, but they were cleared up... or so I thought. One of my old credit card companies, one that I paid off YEARS ago, is STILL reporting that I have an outstanding balance past due! I've tried calling said credit card company several times now, only to be lost while on hold! The other problem is from a store credit card which got sent to a collection agency. It too was paid off fairly quickly and I even got a letter from the collection agency telling me the debt was "fully discharged". Now, about 3 years ago, when we were re-financing our home, it had popped up as a problem and my lawyer AND my bank manager had contacted the credit company and had, supposedly gotten that cleared off my record. So WHY IS IT BACK ON? Again, I can't get a hold of the offending companies because of "greater than expected call volumes" and after about a half hour on hold, my line goes dead! I am SOOO PISSED OFF right now!
Why can't people do their jobs right? Why, when instructed by someone with authority, such as a lawyer, does a company say they are going to fix something, only to be caught a couple of years later, with that exact problem, unfixed? Why does it take call after call after call to get mistakes corrected? Why do companies never have enough agents on duty to handle all the calls they receive everyday? Why, why, why,why WHY?
Ok, I'm done ranting... for now...
Sorry to have bothered any of you with my troubles, but I needed to give voice to my anger before it tore me apart from the inside. If you got this far, thanks for "listening"! I hope to have better news soon.

awwwwwwww my dear friend...I am sorry they are being such buttheads to you. I can feel your pain. When my ex loser left me, he left me with no money and all the credit card debt. I managed to get it all paid off and have been debt free for MORE than 10 yrs now and it is STILL on my credit report. If I had declared bankruptcy and bailed on my debts it would have been gone off my credit report after 7 yrs. Nice eh? Gotta love our financial system here ..lol. Hang in there...I will keep my fingers crossed for ya.
I don't know how Canada is. But I do know, from working in collections, and from having a couple problems myself. If you pay off a "bad debt" You tell them "take it off my credit report" and by law they have to.
If they don't, in the u.s. you can threaten to take them to court, it usually clears up within 24 hours.
Flake - yeah, one of the less wonderful points of being Canadian! Thanks for your support!
Burfica - Last I heard, the credit reporting agencies answer to no one in Canada. They also don't answer their phones too well either!
